Metro, SM Fairview Annex

I was handed a flyer during the opening of Tokyo-Tokyo Metro a couple of weeks back and being a hamburger afficionado their Colossal Burger got my attention! So last November 25, my wife and I decided to try the place.

Without batting an eyelash I ordered for the Colossal Metro Burger while my wife went for the tempura.

We picked on the complementary Japanese breadsticks while we waited for our orders. My wife's tempura came first while mine came after 20 minutes.

The burger was crammed with a thick patty, mushrooms, chopped onions, tomatoe, cheese, a sunny side up egg and spread with a sweet-spicy brownish sauce. Unfortunately, its look did not meet up to my palate's expectations! Whatever secret sauce was in there and the mushroom overpowered the taste that any tinge of burger taste was lost! In fairness, it was really filling and the complementary chips was extraordinarily tasteful. Kudos also to their cozy ambiance and very friendly crew with special mention to Jiro who served us.

Tom: My Favorite Taho Vendor

I posted a shout out on my Facebook Wall this morning about Tom the taho vendor.

Tom has been plying his taho in his assigned trading are in Lagro since we were kids. He’s a kind-hearted fellow who takes pride at what he does. He doesn’t look down at his job. To him it is a means to an end. Actually he had two jobs---security guard at night and taho vendor in the morning.

He always has this happy disposition and because of this he did not seem to have aged through the years. Seeing him made my weekend---a tall glass of taho with lots of arnibal and no sago! (It’s not that I don’t like sago… it is actually a trade off arranged with Tom to give me extra arnibal since I like my taho sweet.)

We were witnesses to his evolution from a walking taho vendor, to pedicab, and until last 3 years or so ago---to a motorcycle driven taho cart complete with wang-wang! Unfortunately, he came down with a sickness that forced him to retire. His Lagro route was never the same.

I've tried buying taho here at the office but its either lasang sunog ang arnibal or the soya would taste like vomit!

I really miss Tom…

Manang Putok

Her name is Manang Dita but I fondly call her Manang Putok.

Whenever I see her I'd always ask, "Manang may putok ka?" to which she would say, "Marami at mainit pa!". It gives me shivers just imagining what crevices she's referring to!--ha! ha!

Kidding aside, she's Jollibee Center's resident vendor. You'd see her at the front entrance from 8am to 9am and at 12:30pm to 1:30pm at the rear entrance door plying her assortment of goodies to her loyal customers. Her "kalakal" consists of sandwiches, puto, suman, palabok, spaghetti, pandesal, putok, pandecoco, chili peanuts---all affordably priced!

I’m one of her afternoon regulars either buying her hot “mani” (to awaken me during those sleepy afternoons) or her freshly baked “putok” for my merienda.

Hot putok and coffee---hmmmmm YUMMY!

Catching up On My Favorite TV Shows

House Season 7
House is compelled to check in for rehab to quell his Vicodin addiction. After several weeks he is up and about and seemed well. He is however denied to leave the hospital with the threat of not being given his medical license if he does not conform to further treatment. Of course, House doesn’t take this seating down…

Supernatural Season 4
Kudos to the writers of this series! Personally, I didn’t think it would last after season 2 but the writers surely did a spectacular job spinning the story to a whole new level adding angels to the mix in season 3. Now, with the apocalypse at hand, Dean and Sam is being pitted against each other as the respective vessels of Archangel Michael and Lucifer! Talk about the ultimate showdown! That is, if the brothers succumb to beckoning of the arch enemies!

How I Met Your Mother Season 5
After a year of wrestling with their feelings for each other, Barney and Robin finally becomes a couple---kinda. Well, it seems that both are still in denial and though their feelings is now out in the open their relationship is going…well…nowhere! At least that’s what they want their friends to know! Ted on the other hand has decided to become a college professor and hinting that the mother of his children was from the class he taught. Unless this is the show’s final season I’d say this is just another spin as to who Ted’s wife will be. Of course there’s Lilly and Marshall. What can I say---they’re still going at it like rabbits!

Californication Season 3
Hank decides to hang around Becky and lets the wife go to New York to pursue her career. He then finds out how exhausting single “dad-ness” is and that no one wants to publish the Lew Ashby book he wrote. Well, Hank will be Hank and will surely find himself at the middle of some demented situation---like taking a teaching job! Not to mention an opportunity to bang three gorgeous women!
