Dark Shadows Movie Review

Dark Shadows is the 8th corroboration from Johnny Depp and Tim Burton.  It was a film adaptation of a Gothic soap opera of the same title which was aired by ABC from 1966 to 1971---a series that Johnny Depp was a fan of.

Dark Shadows tells the story of Barnabas Collins, a wealthy 19th century fish canary magnate who found himself cursed to become a vampire by a scorned lover who happened to be a witch.   Barnabas' real adventure begins when the casket, where he was supposed to be kept to live his vampire life, was accidentally dug-ed out by construction workers 196 years later in 1972.  There he finds that the family canary business has been shut down and his family influence usurped by the very same witch who turned him to a vampire.

The film is vintage Tim Burton reminiscent of Sweeney Todd in terms of the use of light and dark and with characters heavily made up.

I found it a nice date movie to watch.

The movie also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, and Eva Green.

The Lone Ranger Re-make 2013

I was not aware that there's going to be a Lone Ranger Re-make in the making until I saw a picture with Armie Hammer as The Lone Ranger and Johnny Depp playing his sidekick Tonto.  The film will be under Disney films and will be directed by Jerry Bruckheimer.  Tentative release date will be on May 2013.

I grew up watching The Lone Ranger TV series.  They were actually re-runs already since the airing of which was from 1949 to 1957 with Clayton Moore playing the Lone Ranger and Jay Silverheels as Tonto

The Lone Ranger's catchphrase was "Hi-yo, Silver! Away!" which he would say every time he galloped away with his white horse Silver.  Tonto referred to the Lone Ranger as "Ke-mo sah-bee" which means "trusty scout" or "trusted friend.  Other than these other Lone Ranger trademarks would be the silver bullets that he used and the William Tell Overture which became indelibly marked in the memories of the millions who came of age watching the TV series.  Believe it or not but The Lone Ranger re-runs were still being transmitted as of August 2010, sixty-one years after their initial broadcast.

I'm sure many are as curious as I am as to how Johnny Depp will play the role of Tonto.    Based on that head dress he's wearing I'm sure we'll all be in for a big surprise!

The Tourist: A Must Watch!

I'm a big Angelina Jolie fan.  She is not just a good actress but her beauty can really light up the big screen in her lonesome.

In "The Tourist", she plays Elise, a woman caught in a quagmire of deception between the MI6 and the elusive Alexander Pearce (who also happens to be Elise's former lover).  Add on a gangster named Reginald Shaw whose hunting Mr. Pearce for stealing 2 billion dollars.  And then there's Frank Tupelo (played by Johnny Depp), an American math teacher who is on an impromptu trip to Europe to mend a broken heart.

As instructed by Alexander, Elise selects Frank as the unwitting bait to misdirect the MI6 from apprehending him.  And there the adventure begins.  With news that Alexander have had extensive facial surgery, MI6 don't have any clue as to what he looks like---even Elise.  Who is Mr. Pearce?  Watch it and find out.  One thing I can ensure you is that mindless of my infatuation with Ms. Jolie, this film is worth spending money on.

For me, there's no getting enough of Ms. Jolie!
