Good Day Sunshine!

A perfect song to sing today...

Good day sunshine,
Good day sunshine,
Good day sunshine.
I need to laugh, and when the sun is out
I've got something I can laugh about,
I feel good, in a special way.
I'm in love and it's a sunny day.

Good day sunshine,
Good day sunshine,
Good day sunshine.
We take a walk, the sun is shining down,
Burns my feet as they touch the ground.

Good day sunshine,
Good day sunshine,
Good day sunshine.

Remembering John Lennon

If John Lennon was not gunned down that faithful day in December 8, 1980, he would have been 70 years old today, October 9.

What impact in the music industry would he have contributed if he had lived to see this day I can only surmise; but definitely, the world missed out on a lot of LOVE related songs.

Although you really can’t take the rock and roll in John’s music he has metamorphosed to a hippie activist during his solo career and wrote songs promoting peace, love and civil rights.

His anti-war advocacy created songs like “Imagine”, “Give Peace a Chance”, and “Happy Christmas (War is Over)”. But like in many an artist’s creativity, John’s overwhelming love for his family spurred a lot of beautiful love songs. How did John view love? Well, he actually wrote it down in a song aptly titled “Love”.

Happy Birthday John!

“Love”by John Lennon

Love is real, real is love,
Love is feeling, feeling love,
Love is wanting to be loved.
Love is touch, touch is love,
Love is reaching, reaching love,
Love is asking to be loved.
Love is you,
You and me,
Love is knowing,
We can be.
Love is free, free is love,
Love is living, living love,
Love is needing to be loved.

Good Times Magic 89.9

I was listening to Magic 89.9 Good Times with Mo Twister, Grace Lee, and celebrity guest DJ G Toengi this morning and boy was it a blast!

It was music day and they had Cookie Chua and Mike Villegas as guests. Wow! Did they play good music together! Mike Villegas was a real guitar demon I tell you! Add in G Toengi…her voice along can really turn you on! No, no, no, I mean that in a nice way ok? She’s got this soothing voice and her wit…well, let me just say that she gave Mo Twister a good run for his money! G, by the way, who is also a singer, belted out a song by Karen Carpenter in a duet with Cookie! It was absolute heaven! The day’s program was an acoustic trip! Mike and Cookie’s rendition of “Come Together” by the Beatles gave me goose bumps all over! It was as if I teleported to a bar somewhere drinking beer, picking on “roasted highland legumes”, and strumming on my imaginary guitar!

I remember the time when I was still in the seminary when I tried playing the guitar. As the old saying goes, “nothing worthwhile comes in easy!” This is also true when learning to play an instrument. Countless hours of practice, memorizing chords, and calluses! Man, if you don’t want calluses on your fingers---guitar is not the musical instrument for you! Unfortunately, basketball got the better of me and gave up on the guitar. At least my son took up the cudgels.

In hind sight, I regret having abandoned guitar playing. Maybe I’ll start learning again. There’s a lot of guitar playing tutorials in Youtube anyway. Hmmm…maybe I will indeed!
