Christmas is in the air!

Well, it's the BER months once again and like always the prelude to Christmas begins---at least here in the Philippines!

Actually, when I went to the mall yesterday, they were already playing Christmas songs and it's only August 31! Well, there's nothing like celebrating Christmas Filipino style!
The countdown begins today, September 1---115 days to go! Expect, not only Christmas carols to start playing, but Christmas decorations as well! Divisoria shoppers will also start to trickle in for an early holiday shopping.

Good Times Magic 89.9

I was listening to Magic 89.9 Good Times with Mo Twister, Grace Lee, and celebrity guest DJ G Toengi this morning and boy was it a blast!

It was music day and they had Cookie Chua and Mike Villegas as guests. Wow! Did they play good music together! Mike Villegas was a real guitar demon I tell you! Add in G Toengi…her voice along can really turn you on! No, no, no, I mean that in a nice way ok? She’s got this soothing voice and her wit…well, let me just say that she gave Mo Twister a good run for his money! G, by the way, who is also a singer, belted out a song by Karen Carpenter in a duet with Cookie! It was absolute heaven! The day’s program was an acoustic trip! Mike and Cookie’s rendition of “Come Together” by the Beatles gave me goose bumps all over! It was as if I teleported to a bar somewhere drinking beer, picking on “roasted highland legumes”, and strumming on my imaginary guitar!

I remember the time when I was still in the seminary when I tried playing the guitar. As the old saying goes, “nothing worthwhile comes in easy!” This is also true when learning to play an instrument. Countless hours of practice, memorizing chords, and calluses! Man, if you don’t want calluses on your fingers---guitar is not the musical instrument for you! Unfortunately, basketball got the better of me and gave up on the guitar. At least my son took up the cudgels.

In hind sight, I regret having abandoned guitar playing. Maybe I’ll start learning again. There’s a lot of guitar playing tutorials in Youtube anyway. Hmmm…maybe I will indeed!

Ass Kicker!

Her name is Gina Carano. Drop dead georgeous and a serious ass kicker!

She is an American mixed martial arts practitioner who started out as a Muay Thai fighter. After a 12-1-1 Muay Thai record, she was invited to fight in the first ever sanctioned female MMA bout during the World Pro Fighting show in Las Vegas against Rosi Sexton. She has since fought on seven fights and have yet to be beaten.

American Gladiator fans know her as "Crush".

So guys, better make sure your boners are all cushioned up and secure because this gal can break some serious anatomical damage!

Truly Cutting Edge!

Talk about cutting edge technology! The pictures below is of top Italian swimmer Flavia Zoccari taken during the recent Mediterranean Games. She was wearing a new state-of-the-art swimsuit. The $500 Jaked J101 was considered so cutting edge that FINA (the International Swimming Federation) banned the skintight suits because it gave swimmers an unfair advantage. Well, Ms. Zoccari might beg to differ! The swimsuit tore at the seems, exposing her ass! This caused her to miss the championship race of this event. Bummer!

Chuck

The TV series "Chuck" was recommended to me by an office friend who knew of my addiction to watching TV series. Before I move on, let me clarify the addiction part...it's not actually an addiction in the strict sense of the word. We do have a couple of TV sets at home---however, with the children watching cartoons all the time and the wife tuned in to what telenovela and gossip program is on---it's a rarity that I get to grab hold of the remote and do channel surfing much less keep track of any TV series for that matter! So with the trusty DSL and torrent downloader, I just keep pace with my favorite shows by downloading them via the internet.

"Chuck" was not part of my monitored list. I have heard of it and skimped through a couple of reviews during it's initial airing in September 2007 but at that time I was too busy following a bunch of other shows. It was only after I read about the fan campaign for a third season that I started wondering what the fuss was all about. It was only then that I asked my friend to give me a copy of the season 1 and 2 of "Chuck".

The series is about an "average computer-whiz-next-door", Chuck, played by Zachary Levi, who receives an encoded e-mail from an old college friend now working in the CIA; the message embeds the only remaining copy of the world's greatest spy secrets into Chuck's brain making him sort of an intelligence national treasure guarded no less by the CIA, Major John Casey(Adam Baldwin) and the NSA, Agent Sarah Walker(Yvonne Strahovski). It is an action-comedy with a love twist that is reminiscent of the appeal of the show "Louis and Clark" back in the early 90's.

As part of her cover, Sarah poses as Chuck's girlfriend. While Casey provides cover as part of Chuck's posse of sales men at Buy More(a parody of Best Buy's Geek Squad). Being a socially awkward twenty-something guy from California, Chuck is inevitably smitten with the blond bombshell look of Sarah. Who wouldn't be? If I were Chuck I would be crawling and begging her to make it real! Anyway, the appeal comes from this relationship and is sort of a guessing game for the viewer. What makes you want to watch the next episode is that in each one Sarah would give hints as to her real for feelings for Chuck. I'm currently on episode 9 of season 1 and there's this love triangle between Chuck, Sarah, and Lou (played by Rachel Bilson)---things are really getting complicated with this fellow!

Scandal!

From a virtual unknown, Dr. Hayden Kho is now a household name! Man, talk about NOTORIOUS! He did try his hand on show business...unfortunately, show business didn't want him all that much! Now he's got the attention of the whole country with those sex scandals leaking out one after the other!

Did he want the attention? I do believe so! The video was done without the knowledge of his partners and was obviously meant to be his sexual trophies. Diary my brown ass!
Now there's another scandal of yet another big name!

Actually, video scandals are not new to us. There was the alleged Vivian Velez and Connie Reyes betamax movies in the early 80's. In the 90's, Ruffa Guttierez and Donita Rose was also victimized when their candid naked pictures came out! Well, that's the prize of being a celebrity!

My advise to our dear showbiz celebs: be a good example and keep your nose clean! The same goes to our beloved politicians!
